Case Studies
Multichoppers
Whether it's with or without the debris collector – the Multichopper is impressive with its whole range of options for chopping solids.
By selecting the perforated disk, adapting the throughput speed and rotation speed, the Multichopper can be individually adjusted to any application and guarantees an optimum chopping result.
Boerger Multichoppers are customized for all types of application.
The industries and applications listed here are just a sampling of the diversity of Boerger Multichoppers.
Flotation
Flotation
At a provider of solid wood and plywood, more than one hundred cubic meters of waste water is used in the production process every day. This water is cleaned in their own treatment plant. Part of this process is a flotation system. Here the impurities are caught in a dissolved air flotation unit.
The customer uses a multi-phase rotary pump to feed the flotation. In the narrow channels of the pump, solids build up and cause blockages. The Boerger Multichopper ensures that the solids are chopped up so that the medium can be easily pumped.

Waste food chopping
Waste food chopping
A food recycling company disposes of used cooking oil, kitchen and food waste, out-of-date food products from the catering trade and frying oil. The prepared food waste can be used as a raw material for the production of biodiesel or to produce environmentally-friendly energy from biogas plants in the form of electricity and heat.
The food waste is coarsely chopped by a hammermill. To reduce the remaining solids in the liquid medium even more before they enter a centrifugal separator, the customer has incorporated a Boerger Multichopper plus. The Multichopper plus is equipped with the automatic Mechanical Cut Adjustment unit. The MCA unit ensures optimum cutting performance at all times.
The customer is extremely pleased with the Boerger Multichopper plus. The efficiency of the downstream centrifugal separator could be increased as a result of the excellent chopping yield.

Wheat starch concentrate
Wheat starch concentrate
In cattle rearing, the animals are frequently fed with wheat starch concentrate. To obtain a higher protein content, a cattle fodder manufacturer adds surplus wheat starch concentrate to the animal food production from an industrial bakery. This involves wheat waffles and brown pastry sheets which are sandwiched around a milk preparation.
They are then added uncrushed to the wheat starch concentrate. An auger feed conveys the medium to the Boerger Multicrusher. After the initial rough chopping phase, the Boerger Rotary Lobe Pump conveys the medium to be finely chopped in the Boerger Multichopper plus. The speed of both Boerger machines is regulated and synchronized.
In selecting the chopping unit and pump, the animal fodder manufacturer was impressed with excellent results, especially with the ease of maintenance for Boerger products. The Rotary Lobe Pump, Multicrusher and Multichopper are all designed so that maintenance can be carried out by in-house personnel on site at the animal fodder manufacturer's by simply undoing a four bolts. Cosmetic products
Cosmetic products
An international manufacturer of aromas, oils, aromatic substances and cosmetic products required a chopper for shredding vegetable solids. The customer obtains fragrances and flavorings, raw materials, active ingredients and functional ingredients from various natural products such as leeks, onions, vanilla pods etc.
As part of this process, a chopper is needed to break down the previously chopped raw materials which are enriched with water. This chopper needs to be stainless steel and preferably have no space in which the solids could get stuck. The customer opted for a Boerger Multichopper pure. To ensure maximum safety during maintenance carried out on the Multichopper, a proximity switch was installed which prevented it from starting up if the quick-release cover was open.
