Lime milk

In the sugar manufacturing process, raw juice is extracted from sugar beet or cane. After extraction, the raw juice still contains various organic and non-organic substances which would interefere with the following production steps. These non-sugar substances must then be removed.
Lime and carbon dioxide are obtained by burning limestone in lime kilns. The lime is then added to the raw juice in the form of lime milk so that suspended matter flocculates and the unwanted non-sugar substances coagulate.
A French sugar manufacturer has been using a Boerger Rotary Lobe Pump for conveying lime milk now for the past 9 years. They are particularly impressed with the reliability and the long service life of Boerger pumps.
