Palm sugar
A major sugar producer in Thailand sought a solution for packaging palm sugar. The customer opted for a solution with a Börger Rotary Lobe Pump.
Palm sugar is made from the sap of the inflorescence of palms. The sugary nectar from palms is extracted from mature inflorescence by slitting them and collecting the nectar in tanks. Once the pieces and solids have been filtered out, the palm juice is boiled and thickened into a syrup. This is heated again until crystallization takes place. The hot palm sugar syrup is passed into a hopper in and then stirred. The Boerger Rotary Lobe Pump is installed below the hopper and keeps the palm sugar syrup circulating. The speed of the pump is controlled by a frequency converter. The hot syrup is poured into 1 kg bags using a valve. It then cools down and solidifies in the bags.
