Starch
A manufacturer of testliners and corrugated medium used a rotary lobe pump from a competitor to convey starch in the production process. Testliner is two-ply or multi-ply layers made completely of recycled paper. It is the raw material and of major significance in the corrugated cardboard industry. Corrugated medium is made of recycled paper collected from households and department stores. To achieve optimum stiffness, this raw material is often treated with starch or resin.
The factory owner was not satisfied with the competitor's pump. The rotors suffered from wear extremely fast and the mechanical seals had to be frequently changed. The company approached Boerger GmbH and performed various tests with the Boerger Rotary Lobe Pump over four months. The Boerger Rotary Lobe Pump was equipped with stainless steel casing and stainless steel rotors. The Boerger pump was also equipped with seal flushing due to the quick-drying medium.
All the tests concluded with positive results. The customer then started using the Boerger Rotary Lobe Pump. Since then there has been no downtime due to the mechanical seals nor any detectable wear on the Boerger stainless steel rotor. Even after interruptions in the production, there has been no impairment to the machine. The customer is so satisfied with the Boerger pump that 3 more of the same type were ordered.
