Börger rotary lobe pumps convey dirty, sludgy, highly viscous or chemically aggressive media without problems. The compact, low-on-space design, unproblematic pumping in slurp operation and the possibility to drive the pump by means of different motors or a PTO shaft are reasons why our rotary lobe pump is the ideal mobile pump.

Decontamination unit

Oil accidents in water are not uncommon. To prevent the worst, disaster relief and fire services provide decontamination units. Depending on the situation, they are able to detoxify up to 40,000 or 160,000 liters (10,567 or 42,268 gal) of oil/water mixture in one hour. Three Börger Rotary Lobe Pumps are incorporated in the plant. A mobile, self-priming Börger feed pump takes in the contaminated medium and transfers it to the plant. The pump is enclosed in a Euro mesh pallet sized frame and able to feed at controlled speeds using a built-in frequency converter.

The pumps in the plant are also frequency-regulated. After the mechanical separation of oil and water, another Börger Rotary Lobe Pump transfers the separated, highly viscous oil into a tanker vehicle. A larger Börger pump is used to transfer the separated water back to the tank if it still contains oil or pumps it back to the contaminated water to be detoxified completely. The Börger Rotary Lobe Pumps were chosen for their compact design, gentle pumping and excellent control characteristics.

Mobile flood pump

Börger Rotary Lobe Pumps are ideal as mobile, self-priming rotary lobe pumps on vehicle trailers when needed fast in the event of a flood, canal work, pumping station support, wastewater treatment and for disasters. Suction and pressure hoses are installed in just a few minutes. The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) use Börger mobile units for these purposes.

The self-sufficient pumping stations of the Technical Relief Service are ideally suited for use in the open.

Fire department / Disaster Relief Service pump

A German town was experiencing persistent problems with flooding and overflowing sewage canals. To be able to react without depending on other local authorities and associations, the town decided to procure its own mobile pump.

As the local branch of the Disaster Relief Service ran a specialist team for water damage/pump, the decision was made to create a unique nationwide collaboration between the local fire department and the Disaster Relief Service. The mobile pump was to be operated by the local fire department but owned by the Disaster Relief Service's specialist team for water damage/pump. This enabled any staff shortages at the fire department to be filled and saved on cost-intensive training for the fire-fighters. The excellently trained Disaster Relief Service specialist team took care of pump maintenance and were able to operate it in the event of an emergency. To keep the mobile pump available locally for using it outside, the town requires approval from the fire department.

When choosing a mobile pump for this, they agreed on a Börger Rotary Lobe Pump. The key factor in the decision was the extremely positive experience of working with Börger pumps that was shared by members of the relief service. All the requirements of the relief service personnel and the fire department could be perfectly implemented as the entire mobile unit, from the trailer and the pump technology to the control unit, was made by Börger GmbH. Contrary to the centrifugal pumps often used by fire departments, Börger Rotary Lobe Pumps are resistant to solids and loose only minimal pumping efficiency at high pressure. The self-priming Börger pumps are highly reliable due to the impeccable quality and are impressive with the long, above-average service life.

Coastal protection

A special branch was looking for a reliable, solids-resistant mobile pump for combating oil-based contamination in the fight against sea pollution. The pump needed to be used to remove oil spills from the sea in coastal areas. They were looking for a pump which could also be used in clean-up operations as a transfer pump for discharging portable tanks or other collection tanks. The pump needed to convey the oil over long stretches to tanker vehicles or suction tankers.

Several types of pumps were tested. Hose pumps, membrane pumps and eccentric screw pumps were all considered for their purposes. However, not one of these pumps were suitable for the application. The hose pump had persistent problems with excess wear and damage to the hose unit, the membrane pump had constant faults in the ball valves and the design of the eccentric screw pump was not suitable for mobile use. The customer chose a Börger Rotary Lobe Pump.

The Börger Rotary Lobe Pumps are ideal for this type of application. In addition to the compact and space-saving design, the customer was particularly impressed with its resistance to solids, the robust design and the proven high reliability of the Börger pumps. A special vehicle with chain drive was used for the mobile pump unit. The Börger pump was driven by a diesel motor. This means it can be used in any location.

THW mobile pump

The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) was searching for a mobile unit with a high-performance pump. It was essential for them that the pump was self-priming and was able to cope with up to 5,000 liters (1,320 gal) a minute. The pump also had to be able to easily handle water with sand sediments, solids, fibers and oils.

They decided on a Börger FL 1036 Rotary Lobe Pump. As the entire mobile unit could be made by Börger GmbH from the trailer to the pump technology, all their requirements could be met.

This included the following:

  • height-adjustable towing device
  • 4 lifting points for loading the unit by crane or helicopter
  • detachable roof
  • noise insulated diesel motor
  • control system unit with different functions and displays
  • emergency stop button with a 20-meter cable extension

Unlike rotary pumps often used as flood pumps, the Börger Rotary Lobe Pumps are resistant to solids and hardly lose pump efficiency or output even at high pressure. The water damage/pump team are highly satisfied with the Börger Rotary Lobe Pump as a mobile unit. They are particularly taken with the easy handling, the robust operation and ease of maintenance. We have now supplied more than 50 mobile units to the THW.

Flood pump

The Elbe-Elster district responsible for disaster response in the region uses a mobile Börger high-performance pump for flood protection. The pump is operated by the THW local department of Herzberg. Two screw rotors convey the medium with low pulsation and a high efficiency, reaching flow rates of up to 15,000 l/min. The pump unit was designed and built according to the individual requests of the customer. Thus, in addition to 14 flat hoses à 10 m and 15 suction hoses à 2.5 m, various hose adapters and three hose bridges can be stored in the unit.
